Fort William UCI Mountain Bike World Cup

Since 2002 Rare Management has organised the highly successful Mountain Bike World Cup in Fort William, in the Scottish Highlands. This continuous run of annual events has garnered over 27 trophies and awards, bringing in excess of £43million to the local economy.

Every year around 11,000 descend on the venue each day (with 3-4,000 on the Friday) to celebrate a glorious festival of mountain bike action on the slopes of Aoanach Mor, the UK’s 8th highest mountain. They are there to watch around 250 riders from 25 countries who race in the Downhill World Cup and 4X Pro Tour, with a live international broadcast by Red Bull Media House.

Fort William is one of the Classics within the UCI World Cup series of 8 events, renowned for its crowds, atmosphere and challenging courses.

In 2007 we organised the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships, the annual single event that determines the World Champion. In 2020 Reece Wilson became the first Scot to win the UCI World Champion Gold Medal – having started his racing career at Fort William.

We have an exclusive contract for the World Cup with the UCI and are responsible for all aspects of the event – funding, organisation, marketing and delivery.
