Snow is turning the Alps and the Scottish hills into winter wonderlands and the UK industry is about to get together in Telford for Slide, the annual industry tradeshow, where next year's products are unveiled to retailers and media. It's an exciting and busy time for all.
Around 240 different brands are showing at Slide this year and the entire UK ski and snowboard industry is invited to come and check out what they have to offer.

Silver Medal for Katie Summerhayes at World Championships
Sheffield-born Slopestyle skier Katie Summerhayes has taken 2nd place in Ski Slopestyle at the Freestyle Ski and Snowboard Championships in Kreischberg, Austria.
In a historic day for British skiing, the 19 year old, a member of the GB Park and Pipe Team, held off strong competition to win the Silver medal, beaten into 2nd spot by Germany's Lisa Zimmerman.
Katie Summerhayes said: "I'm really stoked, I stepped up each run the way I wanted to. It's taken a lot of hard work to get here and all the girls put on an awesome performance today, it was a great atmosphere out there!"
Slide - easy to get there and 240 reasons to attend
Travelling to Slide is easy; Telford has excellent road connections, just set your satnav to the postcode TF3 4JH to take you to the free parking. Telford station is a short 5 minute drive from the show and there's a free shuttle bus to take you there and back.
Take the pinheads bowling - In addition to the 240 odd brands at Slide, there's a social evening on Tuesday at Telford Ten Pin – teams of 5 and individuals will compete for priceless(ish) trophies and there will be platters of food and a half price bar to ensure the participants and spectators are well-fuelled.
What's happening in your industry? - Wednesday evening plays host to the SIGB AGM. The formal business will be short, followed by the Slide Awards where the best products in show will be celebrated. Presentations from the Ski Club of Great Britain on some interesting consumer research into UK snowsport and an update from SnowCamp – an SIGB-supported charity complete the line up and finally, there's the opportunity to discuss any topic relevant to the UK industry; a rare opportunity to share and exchange views with colleagues and competitors.

Sorel (stand C45 at Slide) are thrilled to announce the partnership with Emily Sarsfield as the brand's new UK ambassador. Emily is Britain's no.1 ski cross athlete, a Eurosport commentator, ski instructor and ski model. She is unbeaten in domestic competition, winning 8 British titles and is the first British woman to win a Europa Cup event in any discipline. Emily will be attending Slide on Tuesday, the first day of the show.
Reusch. Lindsey Vonn made history last weekend, becoming the most successful women skier of all time, winning her 63rd World Cup title. Lindsey's career is a story about never giving up, despite whatever injuries or other barriers stand in your way. There couldn't be a better time for Reusch to be producing a signature glove with Lindsey Vonn and while the glove is being launched officially at ispo, Slide visitors will enjoy a sneak preview at Slide.

SIGB (Snowsport Industries of Great Britain) is the trade association for skiing and snowboarding. It was set up to organise the tradeshow for the benefit of suppliers and retailers way back in 1987.
Snowsport Industries of Great Britain (SIGB) membership consists of 156 organisations, made up of:
48 retail members representing 213 doors 101 full members (suppliers) and 8 travel members
A committee of 12, representing all aspects of the trade heads up the running of SIGB.

So what does SIGB actually do?
First and foremost, SIGB runs Slide, the winter trade show. The show has been successful and generated profits for SIGB, which have been reinvested in promotions and activities to generate interest and increase participation in skiing and snowboarding.
Here’s a brief outline of what SIGB has achieved in the last 10 years:
Profits from the show have funded 2 major retail promotions: ‘Fly Free Campaign’ of 2003/04 and the ‘Win a Car’ promotion of 2004/05, aimed at driving traffic to the specialist retail outlets.
Simultaneously, the Snowlife.org.uk website (powered by SIGB) became the definitive UK portal for any information on UK skiing and snowboarding, with a searchable database of over 4000 contacts. Snowlife.org.uk was supported by the Snowlife booklet which was distributed to hundreds of thousands of consumers via retailers, travel outlets, schools and via both specialist and mainstream magazines.
In 2005 and 2006, the Snowlife Ride & Slide Schools Tour presented skiing and snowboarding to 15,000 schoolchildren at their own schools and attracted some 3,500 kids to local venues for free lessons.
Snowlife also co-sponsored the Aim Series - a non-traditional series of skiing and snowboarding competitions which itself introduced a further 4000 kids to snowsport.
Snowlife Awards – funding was supplied by Snowlife to promote a series of ‘proficiency awards’ delivered by UK ski / snowboard schools on snow and on dry slopes, both in the UK and in the Alps.
In winters 2009, 2010 and 2011, Snowlife supported Freshers Week;, a programme of the Association of Snowsport Countries to offer FREE instruction, lift passes and gear hire for newcomer skiers and snowboarders.
In 2009/2010, SIGB with support from Fall Line, prepared a Boot Campaign tool kit for the winter season for all its retail members. This included artwork to produce posters, adverts and window banners. At the same time SIGB also ran advertisements, highlighting the advantage of getting the right boots to fit.
In 2011 SIGB organised a series of Ski Tests for consumers at the indoor snow slopes to encourage the purchase of new equipment and this was supported by magazine advertising. In 2013/14 SIGB funded a media officer to help promote British athletes in the build up to the Sochi Winter Olympics and to provide support for the Snowsport England Go Ski Go Board campaign, to increase participation on English artificial snow slopes.
An annual trade survey is produced by SIGB, giving a year on year, state of the industry comparisons and it plays a major role in facilitating annual trade ski and snowboard tests for retailers and media.
SIGB runs the annual industry ski test and plan to support the development of the snowboard test.
The SIGB is an organisation that re-invests its profits to support its members and, when funds are available, creates programmes to encourage participation in skiing and snowboarding.

Joining SIGB is low cost. As a supplier it costs £100 per annum. For retailers, the cost is £50 for one outlet, up to a max of £250 for more than 5 outlets. The money is quickly recouped with preferential exhibiting rates for members at Slide and for reduced prices on Ski Test attendance for retailers.
